January 03-February 03

January 5th, 2003- Great Day, except for the one that got away! 3pm, low tide, offshore, overcast, but the water was flat calm. Bam! 30lb wahoo in the boat, thanks to the one and only Johnny Bethel, who will be pictured here as soon as the film develops. Then another hits the wire line, runs, and then stops. Greg thinks he lost him, but wahoo are known to stop and shake their head violently. Then he takes off, runs for about 10 seconds and the line is almost spooled. Greg is then able to reel him up for a good time. Just as the wahoo is within 50 feet of the boat, he's gone. He popped the wire leader.  Then a pod of dolphins came to console our sour thoughts and make us laugh. About a dozen of them played in our wake for 10 minutes or more, jumping 6 feet out of the air.

January 12th- We tried the low tide, offshore, late afternoon conditions again and saw some tuna jumping. Snagged Yellowfin one about 30 lbs. SUSHI TONIGHT!

January 18th- Johnnie & Greg went bonefishing in the bight from 4pm - 6pm, just after high tide with a west wind. Its pretty chilly out there and overcast.  Uneventfully, they did more bonefish spotting than catching today.

January 24- Johnnie & Greg catch this nice wahoo trolling on the Michael John.

February 10th- Lots of wahoo about. Boated a 40 lb wahoo and few others of lesser size.

February 20th- Rob Koury, a reoccurring visitor, fished out of the Michael John with us. We went out about 3:30, tide was changing and soon started rising. It wasn't very windy, but a slight chop and some big swells. Sky was blue, blue, blue.  Wahoo have been prevalent lately, but so have sharks. Rob started reeling in the first strike, when the man in the grey suit chomped half of it, but left us some good meat. Greg reeled in the next about a half hour later. This one was whole and weighed 30 lbs.
