January 2nd- Today's fishing trip was on a late afternoon during an incoming high tide with blue skies & a light chop. Greg & his crew, Dana, Rollie, Trip, Jerome & Jules, pulled in a Dolphin & two Wahoos. The largest wahoo weighed in at 66 lbs.
January 22nd- Just a quick run out to the edge in the Little Harbour Sportfish, a 13foot whaler with 25 horsepower an hour before sunset. Having forgotten the GPS, copper wire, the cell phone, VHF & various fishing tackle we weren't expecting much. We did have 4 rigged baits & two lines in the water. We had a nice strike just as the lines were set for the first run, but lost what looked like a nice size dolphin in a good sized school. We kept trolling over the ground keeping an eye out for birds, baits & schools, when another strike came. With in the hour of sunset we had 5 strikes & four dolphin in the boat. We caught a fish for every bait & filled the 13 foot boat. Those last four strikes came one after another without a second delay. The dolphin weren't monster fish, just schoolies between 15-30lbs, but for an hours worth of fishing, with 4 baits, and a 13foot whaler, it was heaven.
January
29th- This has really been the year of the Wahoo. Almost every trip,
procures at least one wahoo and sometimes a half dozen, and a few
60+lbers. This day was another beautiful afternoon & Greg's been elbow
deep in the engine changing oil on the Michael John. Pete, Ken and a visitor
named John made up the crew for the afternoon spin. They did have a nice strike
of what they think was a huge dolphin. Pete saw the school from the fly
bridge. Greg delicately reeled in a 58 lb wahoo. His next project is to
change out his fishing line, too many big wahoo...
February 10th- The wind finally died down, but there was still quite a surge rolling on shore when we left around 8:00 this morning. Scooter, a long time Abaco Cruiser, & I were Greg's crew today. We trolled around for a couple hours today before our first strike, then found a little honey hole full of schooley dolphin. The dolphins started striking, 4 rods bent over at a time. We ended up with 6 of them in the cooler & Dolphin Burger was on the menu for lunch at the Pub.
February 11- Such a beautiful morning, it had to be a good fishing day, right? The winds were barely a refreshing breeze & the seas had a light chop. We trolled around for quite some time and found one picky dolphin. He checked out a couple of our lures before chomping on an outrigger. We chased current lines, weed lines & manowars, all the conditions were perfect. The fish weren't biting.
February 22- You know how it is when you go in the tackle store for one thing & come out with $500 worth of gear. Well, Pete & Greg did that the other day and today was the day to break all those goodies out of the bag. They mostly did deep dropping or bottom fishing. Three hefty groupers jumped on their hooks; and onto the grill at the pub.
February 23 am- There wasn't much happening in the grouper trolling alley, so we moved on to the edge. Not much action, one Manowar. Then all at once, one, two and three rods snap and bend over. The dolphin are here.
February 23 pm- The afternoon trip was a bit more productive with nine dolphin. But what a beautiful day. The water was like glass & we are expecting some weather to move in over the next few days.
February 24th- Yes the weather came in with a strong south wind. The trolling alley can have a sharp northerly current running, too, mixed with the south wind can make some nasty chop. No fish were biting so we cut our misery short and headed home.

March 23rd- After a long weekend, Monday Morning was perfect for a quiet fishing trip. Pete, Greg & I went on this very flat day with a falling tide. We caught 2 small marlins. We don't fish for marlin because we are looking for meat fish for the pub, but this year the marlin don't seem to care. Two medium sized dolphins came next. And finally the surprise star of the day was a sailfish. Pete had a good time reeling him in, but my marlin put up a good fight with the head shakes & jumps.
April 7th- This morning Greg & Pete went out and caught a mackerel & a couple of little tunas and they saw a Great White Shark come right up to stern of the Michael John. Lucky they got their fish in quick, but even more lucky was the afternoon trip. We had quite the crew, Don Sawyer (alias: Big Dog or Diamond Don), Adam, Clint, Pete, Greg & myself. We found a mess of Man o wars circling & diving and water boiling. Adam reeled in the first blackfin tuna, then Clint. Don had the monster at the bottom of his line, a 70 lb yellowfin tuna. We ended up with 2 more of the little blackfins and Greg horsed the another monster yellow fin, just under at 68 lbs. Surprisingly, one little schooley bull dolphin was hanging out and ended up in our cooler. This was one of the most fun fishing days any of us had in recent years. Pete was dancing up on the bridge, everyone was screaming, Clint lost his voice before we got back in the harbour. We were only offshore for an hour before sundown.
